TRIP INFORMATION

A DAY IN THE LIFE - WHAT TO EXPECT

Guides and hunters rise well before sunup and, after a solid breakfast, they grab their lunches and head for the 4WD rigs for a short ride to the chosen property. Riflemen hunting deer will accompany guides to a pre-dawn vantage point to try to locate a good buck and put him to bed, then planning an approach that could take minutes, or an hour or two. If
a good buck is not located early, we walk elevated ground and glass for already bedded deer, wait along buck travel routes during the rut, or near favored evening feeding areas near sunset. It makes for a full day's hunt. Archers after deer will head to blinds or tree stands for a morning hunt. After a morning sit, and a midday break, it's back into the stand until the end of shooting hours. Energetic archers can spend the middle of the day glassing for deer and stalking them. In hot weather, and during the mid-September rut, many antelope hunters will enter blinds near water while it's still dark and sit all day. Beverages and food are supplied for a comfortable stay, but bring a book for slow times ... .if there are any! If the weather is right, most days game is in sight all day. Or, you can mix it up. Stalking bedded bucks or decoying rutting bucks are viable and exciting alternatives. For post-rut rifle hunts, spot and stalk is the method of choice. Antelope are active much of the day, and glassing favored areas produces buck sightings all day long. Often several stalks can be attempted. At dusk, tired hunters head back to the ranch to care for game taken during the day. Guides will cape and skin animals and make them ready for our local game processing facility where meat is cut, wrapped and frozen for the trip home. A hot meal, conversation, maybe a little big-screen TV, and it's soon time to fall into beds for a good night's rest in preparation for the next day's fun.
